Wire Technician

Summary: Responsible for processing various wire sizes and may perform tasks in various production departments. This position supports production flow as directed by the Production Manager. Teamwork is a vital part of each employee’s job as well as supporting other department personnel and co-workers.

Job Function:

Machinery. Responsible for proper machine operation and test equipment use (set-up i.e. proper tension for payoff & take-up spools, run sample check; diameter, physical & surface requirements):

  • Responsible to set-up and operate wire-drawing machines. Tasks include proper tension for payoff & take-up spools, run sample checks for correct diameter, physical & surface requirements.
  • Feeds wire through machines to anneal, draw or respool wire.
  • Perform TCR (Temperature Coefficient Resistances) on wire samples according to customer specifications.
  • Learn proper die usage and care in large wire dies.
  • Keep dies and drawing machine tanks clean. Maintained equipment by observing all working parts for proper running condition.
  • Keep all orders and work areas organized by tagging required spools.
  • Enter production information & transactions in company database.
  • Assess the machines to leave running by consulting with the Production Manager before his/her shift ends. Make sure all other machines, lights, heaters and fans are turned off. Secure buildings and grounds at end of shift this shift. 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Good math skills with the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple English instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the organization.
  • Must be able to occasionally move or lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to stand, sit, knee, raise arms above shoulders, and have good manual dexterity to work with fine intricate production work, vision correctable to 20/20. Must be able to stand for long periods of time during the production process.
