Spooling and packaging is an important component of wire processing and efficient use of wire in customer applications. The amount of wire on a spool and the type of spool used can have a significant affect on the amount of scrap that is generated in a customer’s process. Also, the ease of use and de-spooling impacts the time (labor) required to make each part.
California Fine Wire provides precision spooling and packaging to meet customer's requirements and facilitate use of our wire products. Digital controllers are used to regulate and optimize the wire tension and spacing on a spool. This is especially important for flat wire products.
Spool types available include:
- Industry standard plastic, Bakelite, composite, and metal spools
- Bonding spools
- Braiding spools and bobbins (available upon request
- Welding reels and spools
- DIN spools (available upon request)
- Customer provided spools and/or bobbins
- Customer provided jigs and fixtures for specialized winding applications
- Custom designed and manufactured jigs and fixtures according to customer requirements
CFW will work with customers to develop the best spooling and packaging for the application.
Prior to shipping, finished spools are packaged in particle free plastic bags, placed into a spool box with the label end visible, then nested in a hard cardboard box with craft-based packing material.
California Fine Wire complies with “no wood” packaging requirements.
Cut and straightened pieces may be packaged in boxes or tubes, depending on the diameter, length and customer requirement. Small tubes are placed in boxes and when large tubes are required, a “double tube” method is used. Large tubes are fastened to a wooden board to help prevent damage during shipping.
Large spools or coils are fastened to a pallet.
