Twisting or Stranding is performed to combine two wires together into a bundled configuration. When 2 wires are twisted together, the cable is commonly referred to as a “twisted pair.” Applications include heater elements, orthodontics, thermocouples, instrumentation, cryogenics, electrical resistance cable, accelerometers, electronics, miniature coaxial cables, robotics, and biomedical. The finished assembled cable can be supplied bare or provided with an insulating jacket or coating.
California Fine Wire (CFW) can provide many combinations of strands and conductors and each strand or conductor can be configured as follows:
- May be the same size or a different diameter
- May be bare or insulated.
- May consist of wires twisted together (i.e. multiple twisted pairs)
- May be wrapped around a center core that can be a wire or a non-metallic fiber.
The stranding can be based on a required twist per inch or computer controlled to obtain a desired resistance value.
CFW fine wire stranding capability encompasses a range of individual strand diameter from 0.001” to 0.015” and a maximum cable o.d. of 0.045”. The maximum number of strands available is 19.
